The Transregional Collaborative Research Center (TRR 318) “Constructing Explainability,” which is jointly run by the Universities of Paderborn and Bielefeld, investigates how algorithmic transparency can be promoted, particularly in the context of black-box models as used in modern artificial intelligence systems. The central hypothesis of the research center is that explanations of algorithmic decisions are most effective when they are jointly (co-constructed) by the explainer and the explained. An interdisciplinary consortium will investigate the mechanisms of this co-construction in order to lay the foundations for confident and informed human decision-making in interaction with intelligent systems. In the first funding phase, the focus was on creating the theoretical, empirical, methodological, and computer-based foundations for the development of co-constructive XAI systems. The second funding phase focuses on the development of more flexible, personalized, and proactive explanation systems that take the situational context into account when adapting their explanatory behavior.

Subproject A06 deals with explanatory strategies for recognizing stress in clinical explanatory situations based on multimodal signals (facial expressions and voice). We are developing tools that help clinical staff to better recognize the presence of stress in neurodiverse and neurotypical populations.

Your Tasks
